Chiropractic Care Antioxidant Connection

The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation (JVSR) found evidence in 2005 that showed chiropractic care can reduce oxidative stress in the body.

When free radicals (damaged cells) start to outnumber your body’s antioxidants, oxidative stress occurs.  Oxidative stress can damage many parts of the body including DNA.  It also is apart of many diseases including:  chronic fatigue, diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

The study in JVSR followed 76 people with one part of the group receiving short term chiropractic care;  another group receiving long term care; and the last group receiving no chiropractic care.

The long term chiropractic group outperformed all other groups.

Chiropractor Dr. Christopher Kent said this: “Oxidative stress, metabolically generating free radicals, is now a broadly accepted theory of how we age and develop disease.  We experience physical, chemical and emotional stress. These stresses affect the function of the nervous system. We hypothesized that these disturbances in nerve function could affect oxidative stress and DNA repair on a cellular level.”

“Chiropractic care appears to improve the ability of the body to adapt to stress,” concluded Kent.
